This Saturday, February 27th, the Green City Market and Slow Food USA are sponsoring an event to get children involved in writing to their legislators about issues that affect them http://www.slowfoodusa.org/index.php/campaign/time_for_lunch/get_involved/. Being an avid letter writer myself, I love this event. I think it is extremely important for citizens to frequently write to the legislators to influence them on up and coming issues. Why not get children started on this habit at an early age. The event educates young people on writing letters to Congress about the Child Nutrition Act and its governance of U.S. school lunch programs to promote healthy options in schools. The campaign takes places from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. upstairs in the North Gallery of the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum (2430 N. Cannon Dr. – off Fullerton and Lake Shore Drive across from the Lincoln Park Zoo), to right of the Slow Food Chicago table. Bring your little ones to have their voices heard.
You can also enjoy a little local farmer supplied fresh food shopping since the Green City Market is held there in the winter too.
If you can’t make the event, start your own letter writing service campaigns from home!
