Blackboard & IE7

Blackboard users who recently upgraded to the Vista operating system and Internet Explorer (IE) 7 may find that when they go to a tool (such as the Discussion Board) which contains the Text Box Editor, that there is a tool bar, but no box to type text in.

The easiest way to resolve this problem is to turn off the Visual Text Box Editor:

1. Go to http://my.morainevalley.edu. and log in.
2. At the Welcome screen look to the top left for the Tools box
3. Click on Personal Information.
4. Click on Set Visual Text Box Editor Options.
5. Select Unavailable.
6. Click on Submit.

This will disable the visual text box editor and give you access to the default editor, which should work. Alternatively, you can use Firefox. If you are a Mac user, you should use Firefox.

Internet Explorer 7 users who are having problems and not running Vista: Either disable the editor as described above, or add http://my.morainevalley.edu to your list of trusted sites. To add the Blackboard site to the “Trusted Sites” zone:

1. Click “Tools” on the menu bar of your browser (not in Blackboard).
2. Click “Internet Options.”
3. Click the “Security” tab in the Internet Options window.
4. Select “Trusted Sites.”
5. Click the “Sites” button.
6. Uncheck “Require server verification” at the bottom.
7. Type “http://my.morainevalley.edu” (without the quotes) in the “Add this website to the zone:” box.
8. Click the “Add” button.
9. Click “OK.”

Q: How can I tell what version of Internet Explorer I am using?
A: Open Internet Explorer and press the F1 key on your keyboard. If the Internet Explorer logo contains the number 7, you are running Internet Explorer 7. If you see an Internet Explorer logo but no number 7, you are running an older version.
